Quick start

Applies to: StablEdge 0.4.4 and later

This page takes you from installing, through signing in and setting up, to your first conversation. The whole thing takes a few minutes.

Download and install

  1. Open the download section of our website and pick the package for your system and chip architecture.
  2. Run the package and follow the prompts to install.
  3. Start StablEdge once the installation finishes.

Windows packages are code signed, so the system usually lets them through; if SmartScreen appears, choose More info › Run anyway. On Windows 10, download the package built for Windows 10.

The download section lists the size and SHA256 of every package. To check that a package arrived intact, compute its SHA256 with a tool that ships with your system and compare.

  1. On the sign-in page enter your username and password. Your account is issued by the administrator of your organization; contact them if you forget the password.
  2. Under Stay signed in, choose 7 days or 30 days.
  3. Tick "I have read and agree to the User Agreement, Privacy Policy, and Generative Content User Conduct Guidelines".
  4. Select Sign in.
  5. If your account belongs to more than one organization, the choose-your-identity page opens; pick the organization to enter.
If the same account signs in on another device, this device is signed out; just sign in again.

Choosing the global workspace folder

On your first sign-in StablEdge asks you to choose the global workspace folder. It holds your project files and is saved separately for each account.

  1. Select Choose folder and pick an empty folder, or create one in the dialog.
  2. Select Confirm and continue.
The folder must be empty, and it cannot be a disk root, your home folder, a symbolic link, a folder belonging to StablEdge itself, or a network share.

Setting up StablEdge

Next comes a three-step setup wizard:

  1. Knowledge base path: choose where the knowledge base lives; you can pick a folder with Browse. Conversations, caches and other data are managed for you.
  2. Agent file access scope: choose which files the Agent may read and write.
    • "Restricted mode (recommended)": the Agent can reach only files in the knowledge base and the conversation output folder, which suits most work.
    • "Full access": the Agent can reach files anywhere on the computer except the core system folders, which suits advanced users who work across folders.
  3. Confirm configuration: review the settings from the first two steps and select Finish setup.

You can change the access scope at any time under Settings → Agent.

The tour

When the main window opens, "Welcome to StablEdge" appears. Select Start tour and StablEdge walks through the chat workspace, project files, the input box, the editor and the navigation in turn; select Maybe later to skip it.

  • Move through the tour with Previous and Next, with the ← → keys, or skip it with Esc.
  • To see it again later, choose Help › Usage Guide.

Your first conversation

  1. In the sidebar select New project. On the Local project tab select Choose folder, pick or create a project folder, fill in Project name and select Create project.
    • Ticking Initialize Git repository records changes with version control; a folder that is already a repository is left as it is.
  2. Inside the project select New conversation.
  3. Pick a mode in the mode selector above the input box. For a first try, choose Agent Lite: it carries out what you ask directly.
  4. Describe what you want in the input box, for example "Sort the meeting notes in this folder into a to-do list", and press Enter to send.
  5. When the Agent needs to run a command or change a file, a confirmation card may appear; read it and allow or refuse, as described in confirmation cards.
  6. When the answer ends, the chat lists the files this turn changed. Select Show changes to look them over, then Keep all or Undo all.
